Professional Responder - Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Development Pathway Below is the pathway to become a certified BLS Instructor. You must successfully complete each step before advancing to the next step. Certification is valid for three years. 1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites Confirm prerequisites are met: you must be 18 years or older, have a valid Canadian issued participant certificate at the Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR level, Airway Management, Oxygen Administrration certifications, and successfully complete a skills evaluation. 2. Fundamentals of Instruction Complete the Fundamentals of Instruction online component (8 hrs*), and a classroom component (14 hrs 30 min) focused on the application of fundamentals. 3. First Aid and Medical Event Services We provide a full suite of first aid and medical standby services from which businesses or private groups can choose the best solution for their event, job site or location. If you are unsure which level of service or support you require, we are well-versed in legislative requirements and can recommend the best options based on your location, risk exposure, and budget. Not all events require a registered practitioner or ambulance. Our teams can respond to everyone in attendance at your event, providing a high standard of care until local EMS staff arrive. We've even been known to dress 'incognito', so guests didn't even know we were there. Our diverse teams comprise Intermediate/Standard First Aiders, Advanced First Aiders, Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), and Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs). Teach Experience Supervisor Pathway: Step 1: Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisits: Step one consists of confirming prerequisites are met: you must be a certified Instructor or Youth Leader and complete a skills evaluation Step 2: Fundamentals of Instruction: Step 2 consists of an online component (2-4 hrs*) Step 3: Certification Once you have completed step one and two, you are a certified Teach Experience Supervisor. Who this program is suited for: This program is well-suited for those pursuing employment or volunteer opportunities in first response fields, including fire and rescue services, police services, industrial safety roles, security environments, and other professions where Medical First Responder–level competency is valued. Building on the comprehensive assessment and treatment skills developed in Advanced First Aid, the AHASTI MFR pathway prepares participants to respond confidently to medical and traumatic emergencies while effectively supporting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) during patient care and transfer.
