
About the Course
The AHASTI Medical First Responder (MFR) program is a two part program that combines Advanced First Aid skills with a focused, three-day training program designed for individuals who require advanced first-response skills in workplace, industrial, or community settings.
This program is well suited for people looking to work or volunteer in the area of first response, including roles within fire and rescue services, police services, industrial sectors, safety and security, and other professions that require Medical First Responder–level expertise.
Building on foundational Advanced First Aid knowledge, the AHASTI MFR program prepares participants to respond confidently to medical and traumatic emergencies while effectively supporting Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Step 1: Complete an 80 hour Alberta OHS approved Advanced First Aid.
Step 2: Complete AHASTI's 3 day Medical First Responder.
Flexible scheduling: Step 1 and 2 step must be completed within a 6 month period.
Certification attained - Medical First Responder (100 hours)
The AHASTI MFR is often recognized in fire department and Primary Care Paramedic applications!
Emergency Medical Responder programs available as well.
Prerequisite
An Advanced First Aid (AFA) certification issued within the last 6 months is required prior to attending the AHASTI Medical First Responder (MFR) program.
Course Content
Day 1: Medical First Responder (MFR)
Days 2–3: International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
Through a combination of theory, hands-on skills, and scenario-based training, participants will develop advanced patient assessment, trauma management, decision-making, and emergency communication skills.
Course Completion
100% attendance and participation
Completed practical scenarios for the ITLS Basic Trauma Program

The course manual is not included in the tuition price; however, the 9th edition of the ITLS for Emergency Care Providers text can be purchased at checkout.
