Learn extra knowledge and skills that are great for sporting events, illnesses, and injuries, or in case of emergencies until additional help arrives. This program is great for athletic therapists, Security, and volunteer Fire Departments. Please note that although it is approved for some industries in other provincial jurisdictions, it is not approved as a workplace first aid program or responder level in Alberta. Those applying to the Calgary or Edmonton Fire Department should take the Advanced First Aid, AHASTI's Medical First Responder Program, or AHASTI Emergency Medical Responder Program . Prerequisite Pre-course Requirements: None Recert: Proof of current First Responder certification by a CRC-recognized national training agency required. First Aid & CPR Instructor Recertification Price $200.00 Duration 6 hours in-class Enroll < Back About the Course This recertification is for Instructors currently teaching CPR, Basic (Emergency)/Intermediate (Standard) First Aid, Childcare First Aid, or Marine Basic First Aid. As of 2024, Red Cross Instructors now recertify each discipline individually before individual certification expiry dates. Prerequisites: Have a current Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor certification. Have taught a minimum of three Canadian Red Cross First Aid Program courses during the three-year certification period. One course must have been taught in each discipline the Instructor is seeking recertification (course taught must be at the highest level of certification within each discipline; recertification and blended courses also qualify). Local legislators may set additional requirements. Please check the legislation in your area for further requirements. Courses taught in combination (e.g., Standard First Aid and CPR C) do not count as separate courses for recertification prerequisites. Candidates enter our comprehensive Instructor Development Program, designed to prepare them to support dynamic, learner-centred classroom environments. First Aid & CPR Instructor Development Pathway Below is the pathway to become a certified First Aid & CPR Instructor. You must successfully complete each step before advancing to the next step. Certification is valid for three years. 1. Textbook - All Instructor Candidates must have the 1st edition ITLS Course Manual for Emergency Care Providers. Candidates must complete all steps to confirm registration. Download the ITLS application and submit to ITLS directly within 30 days BEFORE any ITLS Instructor Course for approval. Here’s how the new ITLS Instructor program works: 1. Complete the ITLS Provider course you wish to teach (Advanced, Basic, or Pediatric). Individuals who complete an Advanced course can teach Basic or Advanced-level courses. 2. Earn the Instructor Potential designation by achieving specific scores on both the Written and Practical Exams at the Provider course: At least 86% on the Written Exam Excellent on the Patient Assessment Practical Exam 3. Purchase and complete the Instructor Course Online Component, an 8-module online course built on a foundation of adult education principles. Buy the Instructor Course Online Component 4.
