Instructor Development Transfer Pathway - Option 1

About the Course

Instructor Candidates with previous Instruction Experience. Instructor candidates who qualify for this transfer pathway are entering into the Instructor Development Program with current instructor level certification through another recognized Canadian First Aid agency. They will follow the Instructor Development Program however they will not be required to complete Step 3: Discipline Specific In-Classroom Component.


Pathway for the Transfer Option 1:


1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites

Confirm prerequisites are met: you must be 18 years or older, have a valid Canadian issued First Aid Instructor with a Canadian Recognized First Aid Provider, and successfully complete a skills evaluation.


2. Fundamentals of Instruction

Complete the Fundamentals of Instruction online component (8 hrs*), and a classroom component (14 hrs 30 min) focused on the application of fundamentals.


3. Teaching Experience

Complete the Teaching Experience online module (30-45 min*) and a classroom component with the support of a Teaching Experience Supervisor. 


4. Certification

An electronic certification will be issued upon completion. Certified Instructors can teach CPR Levels A and C, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency Child Care First Aid, and Standard Child Care First Aid courses.


* Online learning time will vary depending on the learner.

In addition to the prerequisite requirements in the specific category pages, candidate will also need to submit a current First Aid Instructor Certification from a recognized Canadian Approved Agency.

Red Cross First Aid Instructor certification valid for 3 years.
