AHASTI also offers on-site First Aid and CPR training delivered directly at your workplace. Request an on-site quote and we’ll tailor a training plan for your team. Request Onsite Training Quote Frequently Asked Questions What is the difference between Emergency First Aid and Standard First Aid in Alberta? Emergency First Aid is a one-day course covering life-threatening emergencies and basic skills required for low-hazard worksites. Standard First Aid is a two-day, more comprehensive program required for medium- and high-hazard worksites under Alberta OHS legislation. AHASTI offers both courses in certified formats, including blended delivery. How do I know which level of First Aid my workplace needs? Workplace First Aid requirements depend on your industry, the number of employees, shift patterns, and the hazard assessment for your site. If you’re unsure which course meets Alberta OHS requirements, AHASTI’s team can assist you in determining the correct training level for compliance. What is the most requested First Aid level for Alberta workplaces? The Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certification is the most commonly required program. It includes CPR-A/C, injury and wound management, hot and cold emergencies, medical conditions, poisoning, and bone, muscle, and joint injuries. Can I take a recertification course if my certificate is expired? This depends on the program. Some certifications require your previous certificate to still be valid on the day of recertification. Others permit a limited grace period. If your certificate has a specific printed expiry date, there is no grace period. If the certificate does not include an expiry date, or if you're unsure of your eligibility, AHASTI can confirm the correct course for your situation. Are blended learning options available? Yes. Many AHASTI First Aid and CPR courses are available in a blended format, combining online learning with in-class skills practice and evaluation. Blended delivery is fully recognized under Alberta OHS and Canadian Red Cross standards. What course should I take if I work in childcare? Early childhood educators in Alberta typically require Childcare First Aid with CPR-B. This course focuses on child and infant emergencies, illness recognition, and injury management. AHASTI offers full certifications and recertifications for childcare professionals. Do you offer group or onsite training? Yes. AHASTI provides onsite First Aid and CPR training for workplaces across Calgary, Red Deer, and Alberta. Groups can request a customized quote, with training delivered directly at your location through our Mobile Training Unit. How long are First Aid and CPR certificates valid for? Most First Aid and CPR certifications are valid for three years, depending on the certifying organization and industry standards. Some workplaces or governing bodies may require more frequent recertification. Can I take CPR on its own, or does it need to be combined with First Aid? Yes, CPR can be taken as a standalone course. AHASTI offers CPR programs including CPR-C and Basic Life Support (BLS). Please note that First Aid courses always include CPR, so CPR cannot be taken as a stand-alone replacement for First Aid. Are your instructors certified to teach Alberta OHS-approved courses? Yes. All AHASTI instructors are certified through the Canadian Red Cross or other recognized regulatory bodies, and all First Aid and CPR programs meet Alberta OHS training standards. Do you offer courses in languages other than English? Yes. AHASTI offers First Aid and CPR courses in English, Punjabi, and Mandarin, depending on instructor availability. If your group requires a specific language, please contact our coordination team to confirm scheduling options. What should I bring to my First Aid or CPR class? Participants should bring a government-issued ID, writing materials, and wear comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based skills practice. All course materials and equipment are provided by AHASTI. Can I complete the entire First Aid course online? No. Alberta OHS requires that all First Aid certifications include an in-person skills assessment. Blended learning allows theory to be completed online, but all hands-on components must be completed in class with a certified instructor.
