First Aid and CPR Courses
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which first aid course I need?
Many employers, education programs or volunteer groups will be very specific about which first aid they wish you to have. We recommend, speaking with them prior to registering or calling in and asking one of our knowledgeable Customer Service Team Members for assistance.

What is the most requested first aid level for an Alberta workplaces or job site?
The most common is the intermediate or Standard First Aid program, as it covers all the CPR for Adult, Child, Infants as well as how to treat a wound, hot & cold emergencies, special medical conditions, poisons, head injuries and bone, muscle, and joint injuries.

I have a CPR certification already; can I just take the First Aid portion?
No. Sorry this is not available here at AHASTI.

Can I attend a recertification if my current certification has expired (even by one day)?
No. This is a regulation that has determined by the Canadian Red Cross and legislative bodies in each province to ensure program compliances. Instructors and/or staff at AHASTI are not able to make exceptions regardless of reason. AHASTI recommends that individuals register to attend a recertification a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the expiry date, in the event a class has low enrolment or a change in the registrants work or personal schedule or illness.
