Accommodation Request Form First Name Last Name Email Phone Accommodation Documentation Upload File Upload supported file (Max 15MB) Program Area Choose an option Submit Thank you! Please note that modifications to course completion criteria for any of the AHASTI courses does not fall under the guidelines of Duty to Accommodate. Our instructional staff will do their best to accommodation same day requests within the scope of the program and resources available to them at the time if a request was not submitted prior to the program. Frequently Asked Questions How are accommodations determined? To qualify for accommodations, students must provide supporting medical or other documentation (e.g., physician statements, functional assessment forms, psychoeducational assessments). Some of these documents contain recommendations for accommodations. AHASTI then collaborates with each student to discuss the most appropriate accommodations to meet the student's needs while aligning with the program's competency profile and applicable legislative and/or academic requirements. How are Accommodation Decisions Guided? Human Rights Legislation: There are 15 grounds under which individuals are protected. AHASTI has a duty to accommodate students with disabilities in higher education to the extent that doing so would impose undue hardship on AHASTI, while complying with all applicable legislative and industry requirements. Formal documentation to support accommodation is required. At AHASTI, we require students to provide formal documentation in the form of one or more of the following: Psycho-educational assessments completed by registered psychologists Functional limitations assessments completed by medical practitioners Detailed medical letters from medical practitioners. Collaboration among the student, instructor, and AHASTI administrator. What does undue hardship mean? A situation where accommodating a student with disabilities leads to unreasonable and excessive challenges for AHASTI. This includes but is not limited to situations where: a) The accommodation significantly interferes with the rights of other students; b) The accommodation creates health and/or safety concerns; c) The financial cost of the accommodation is excessive, in the context of AHASTI as a whole; and/or d) The accommodation would result in a necessary course or program requirement not being met. What is my responsibility as a student in the accommodation process? Initiate the accommodation request by contacting AHASTI before the start of the program. (6-8 weeks prior is preferred, minimum 30 days). Provide necessary documentation to support the request. Meet with an AHASTI staff member to discuss appropriate accommodations. I am struggling in areas of my class, where can I get help? The best first step is to speak with your instructor. They may be able to provide suggestions for completing your work.

Request Onsite Training Quote Frequently Asked Questions What is the difference between Basic First Aid and Intermediate First Aid in Alberta? Basic First Aid, previously called Emergency First Aid, is a one-day course covering essential first aid skills for responding to emergencies. Intermediate First Aid, previously called Standard First Aid, is a more comprehensive course covering a broader range of injuries and medical emergencies. Both programs include CPR and AED training and meet applicable Alberta workplace first aid requirements. Which First Aid course do I need for work in Alberta? The First Aid course you need depends on your workplace, industry, job duties, and the first aid requirements that apply to your worksite. Basic First Aid and Intermediate First Aid are Canadian Red Cross workplace first aid courses aligned with CSA Z1210. If your employer has specified a required level of First Aid certification, choose the course that matches that requirement. What is the most requested First Aid level for Alberta workplaces? The Intermediate First Aid certification, previously called Standard First Aid is the most commonly required program. It includes CPR-A/C, injury and wound management, hot and cold emergencies, medical conditions, poisoning, and bone, muscle, and joint injuries. Can I take a recertification course if my certificate is expired? No. Your certification must be valid on the day of your recertification course. If your certificate has expired, you will need to complete the full certification course again. Are blended learning options available? Yes. AHASTI offers blended learning options for select First Aid and CPR courses. Blended courses combine online learning with an in-class session for hands-on skills practice and evaluation. What course should I take if I work in childcare? Early childhood educators in Alberta typically require Childcare First Aid with CPR-B. This course focuses on child and infant emergencies, illness recognition, and injury management. AHASTI offers full certifications and recertifications for childcare professionals. Do you offer group or onsite training? Yes. AHASTI provides onsite First Aid and CPR training for workplaces across Calgary, Red Deer, and Alberta. Groups can request a customized quote, with training delivered directly at your location through our Mobile Training Unit. How long are First Aid and CPR certificates valid for? Canadian Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications are valid for three years from the date of certification. Your certificate must remain valid to be eligible for a recertification course. Can I take CPR on its own, or does it need to be combined with First Aid? Yes. CPR can be taken as a standalone course. AHASTI offers CPR Level C as well as Basic Life Support (BLS). If your workplace or organization requires First Aid certification, however, a standalone CPR course does not replace that requirement. Are your instructors certified to teach Alberta OHS-approved courses? Yes. AHASTI’s First Aid and CPR instructors are certified Canadian Red Cross instructors and deliver courses in accordance with Canadian Red Cross program standards and applicable Alberta workplace first aid requirements. Do you offer courses in languages other than English? Yes. AHASTI offers First Aid and CPR courses in English, Punjabi, and Mandarin, depending on instructor availability. If your group requires a specific language, please contact our coordination team to confirm scheduling options. What should I bring to my First Aid or CPR class? Participants should bring a government-issued ID, writing materials, and wear comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based skills practice. All course materials and equipment are provided by AHASTI. Can I complete the entire First Aid course online? No. First Aid certification cannot be completed entirely online.
