About the Course
The Advanced First Aid (AFA) to AHASTI Medical First Responder (MFR) Upgrade is designed for individuals who already hold an approved Advanced First Aid certification and want to advance their skills to the Medical First Responder level. This streamlined upgrade focuses on the essential knowledge, competencies, and practical skills required for those working or volunteering in first response roles across fire rescue, law enforcement, industrial worksites, security, safety services, and other environments where immediate emergency care is critical.
AHASTI’s MFR program prepares responders to provide effective first-on-scene assessment and emergency care prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Candidates also learn how to support EMS personnel once they are on scene, ensuring continuity of care and safe, coordinated patient management.
This upgrade pathway allows qualified participants to transition from Advanced First Aid to the full AHASTI Medical First Responder standard through focused instruction, skills development, and scenario-based practice.
Prerequisite
Participants must have:
OHS-Approved Advanced First Aid Certification completed within the last 6 months.
9th Edition ITLS Textbook.
Completion of all required pre-reading and the ITLS pretest prior to attending class.
