About the Course

This International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Duty to Respond program is designed for first responders who are first on the scene while waiting for EMS to arrive. This course is perfect for fire departments, advanced first aiders, peace officers, etc., who may want extra knowledge on trauma care. Training courses are offered in Calgary and Red Deer.


Prerequisite:

Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid certification from a Canadian-approved agency.


Course Content:

Focus on: Initial patient evaluation and critical interventions required to manage the patient until the next level of care arrives.


Didactic and Skills:

  • Scene considerations

  • Rapid trauma patient assessment

  • Shock and bleeding

  • Airway breathing interventions

  • Delayed transport care and reassessment

  • Hypothermia

  • Triage and communications
