About the Course
This EMR refresher course will complete candidates in ITLS Basic Provider, BLS CPR, and Psychological First Aid, as well as a refresher on skills, scenarios, and content from the EMR program—email emscontact@ahasti.ca for more information. A refresher course is for those who have completed an Alberta College of Paramedics-approved EMR program within the last three years.

Continuing Competency Credits: AHASTI's EMR Refresher is approved for 60 Continuing Education (CE) Credits!
COST AND DURATION:
Refresher: $1200.00 - Traditional Instructor-Led (in-class): 96 hrs
Additional Fees:
Students are welcome to reference their textbook from a previous course or purchase one from AHASTI. The ITLS textbook, 9th edition, is required for this program. Students are welcome to borrow from a friend, purchase new or used from another source, or new from AHASTI.
PREREQUISITE:
Show proof of graduation from an Alberta College of Paramedics-approved EMR program completed no later than 3 years from the start of the EMR Refresher program, or proof of an Alberta College of Paramedics registration at the EMR level within the last year.
Class 5 driver's license (GDL okay).
COURSE EXPECTATIONS
100% attendance is mandatory; lateness will also not be tolerated.
Respect for each other, the instructor, the facility, and the equipment.
Professionalism—Students are expected to demonstrate the same level of professionalism as would be expected of any EMS personnel.
All assignments, skills, and exams must be completed on time and at an overall grade of 75% or higher.
Students must complete the licensing requirements with the Alberta College of Paramedics within 1 year of completing their EMR refresher course. If not, students may be asked by the Alberta College of Paramedics to complete a full EMR program.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
Student must have their own gear for this program, including:
Stethoscope
Blood Pressure Cuff
Penlight
Pulse Oximeter
Medical Scissors
Safety Goggles
One-way CPR mask (not plastic shield)
AHASTI has complete equipment kits available for purchase, or student can bring their own.
COMPLETION:
Successfully demonstrate skills and critical steps
Min. 75% mark for written knowledge evaluation
Attend and participate in 100% of the course
CERTIFICATION:
3-year certification. All successful candidates wanting to work as an EMR in the province must register with the governing body - the Alberta College of Paramedics
