What You Need to Apply to Calgary Fire
Required and recommended qualifications for firefighter applicants
Minimum Requirements:

Minimum 18 years of age
-
Eligible to work in Canada
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Valid Class 5 driver’s license (non-GDL, with acceptable abstract)

Clear background and screening requirements

Pre-Hire Qualifications (Required Before Final Selection):

Advanced First Aid (AFA) – minimum 80 hours or equivalent. (available through AHASTI)

CPR Health Care Provider (HCP) or Basic Life Support (BLS). (available through AHASTI)

Alberta Class 1, 2, or 3 driver’s license (or equivalent)
-
Air Brake (Q) endorsement (or equivalent)

Meet required immunization standards
Other desirable qualifications:
You do not need these qualifications to apply, however, they will strengthen your application.

Education – completed post-secondary education or red seal journeyman certificate(s).

Training – professional training certifications, both fire and non-fire related.

Experience – work or volunteer experience in firefighting, emergency services and other related work experience. (Such as EMR - available through AHASTI)

Skills and abilities – leadership, mentoring, community involvement and volunteering.
