About the Course

Instructor candidates who qualify for this transfer pathway are entering into the Instructor Development Program with previous experience as an educator (elementary or secondary level). They will follow the Instructor Development Program however they will not be required to complete Step 2: Fundamentals of Instruction - Classroom Component. Candidates holding a current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor or a HIGH FIVE Trainer certifications qualify for this pathway.

18 years old with previous experience as an educator (elementary or secondary level) and a current Standard First Aid with CPR level C.

Instructor Development Pathway - Transfer Option 2


You must successfully complete each step before advancing to the next step. Certification is valid for three years.


1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites

18 years old with previous experience as an educator (elementary or secondary level) and a current Standard First Aid with CPR level C.


2. Fundamentals of Instruction

Complete the Fundamentals of Instruction online component (8 hrs*)


3. Discipline-Specific Classroom Component

Attend the First Aid & CPR discipline-specific classroom component (14 hrs 30 min), which focuses on the specific skills of that program.


4. Teaching Experience

Complete the Teaching Experience online module (30-45 min*) and a classroom component with the support of a Teaching Experience Supervisor. 


5. Certification

An electronic certification will be issued upon completion. Certified Instructors can teach CPR Levels A and C, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency Child Care First Aid, and Standard Child Care First Aid courses.


* Online learning time will vary depending on the learner.

  • Red Cross First Aid Instructor valid for 3 years.

  • To maintain this certification, each instructor must teach a minimum of three Canadian Red Cross First Aid programs during the three-year certification. One course must be at the Intermediate (Standard) First Aid or Standards Childcare First Aid.
